Brief Introduction to Joomla
On October 31, 2013, we published the article titled The Different Versions of Joomla. There, we discussed about the Joomla Version History and Joomla Features Additions by Version. So, you might find that article worth reading.
Currently, Joomla is one of the leading Content Management Systems (CMS) in the market worldwide. In terms of the total number of websites using it, Joomla ranks second just right behind WordPress. On its quest to become the leading CMS worldwide, The Joomla Development Team and The Joomla Open-Source Community continue to strive on updating and improving it to meet the current and the future demands of all aspects of Website Management and Technologies.
Joomla prides itself with cost efficiency, competitive ease of use, flexibility, sophistication, and security among others. It is known for its great security updates and ability to implement sophisticated website functionalities at a relatively lower implementation and maintenance cost.
Arguably, Joomla is the best choice when security, ease of use, functionality, and cost are the underlying factors to consider in creating your website(s). With Joomla 3.2 security update (Two-Factor Authentication), it is virtually impossible to hack any Joomla-based websites. When this security feature is turned on, the maximum time it may give a hacker to do all its nasty activities to intrude is just 30 seconds. That time-frame, my friend, is extremely hard to beat.
Moreover, Joomla has also made updates and improvements that cater the ease of use sector of the CMS market. It is now as much WordPress Friendly as ever. The recent updates greatly improve its UI & UX, User Interface & User eXperience respectively. Now, Joomla has a new feature called Joomla Extension Finder that made the Joomla Extension Directory (JED) integrated and available at the back-end of Joomla-based websites. Thus, providing content and managing the site has become a lot better.
Alright, this concludes the first part of this series. We hope that you learned a lot. On the next part, we will try to discuss and define the widely used jargon in Joomla. See you then!
